$5,000 to charity for the hair on Gov. Bevin's chinny, chin, chin

FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) - The numbers from of one of Kentucky’s most talked about polls are in and Gov. Matt Bevin has responded to the landslide results.

Bevin, who had been sporting a full beard in recent weeks, had Kentuckians help him answer a hairy question: “Should I shave or should I grow?”

People cast their votes to determine the beard’s fate.  Every dollar contributed equaled one vote and a tax-deductible contribution to first lady Glenna Bevin’s foundation, #WeAreKY! Inc., that works to support foster care and adoption initiatives.

The voting brought in a whopping $5,000 for the charity.

“We raised nearly $5,000 for this charity, all of which goes to programs that fund adoption and foster care,” said Bevin.  “These are the kind of things that are making a profound difference for thousands of young people in our state.  So, thank you for your generosity and thanks for having fun with this.”

And as he promised for the winning choice,  Bevin has indeed shaved his beard as the accompanying photo clearly shows.

The voting results were as follows:

--592 for The Samson: a continued full beard, inspired by the Old Testament judge

--172 for The Anchorman: a 1970s-style mustache, à la fictional newsman Ron Burgundy

--199 for The Fu Manchu: a horseshoe-shaped goatee, on frequent display during the 1980s

--131 for The Colonel: a Van Dyke beard, in homage to iconic poultry purveyor Col. Harland Sanders

--3,628 for The Clean Shave: the runaway favorite of most post 19th-century Commonwealth chief executives
