PIKEVILLE, Ky. (KT) – Appalachian Newspapers Inc. has purchased The Floyd County Times and the Hazard Herald.
The Floyd County Times will merge with the Floyd County Chronicle to create the Floyd County Chronicle and Times, a name intended to both acknowledge the Floyd County Times’ storied past as the community newspaper for Floyd County, as well as its future as the Floyd County Chronicle and Times.
All the newspapers are well-known in their communities for their contributions to the public discourse and Appalachian Newspapers Inc. will continue to promote government transparency as well as communicate items of interest to the community.
“Our commitment is and always will be to provide the most credible and complete local news, sports and information available,” said Appalachian Newspapers Inc. Publisher Jeff Vanderbeck. “Our newspapers’ reputations have been built on telling the whole story fairly and completely and giving people the information they need and deserve. That will not change.”
In addition to the Appalachian News-Express, Appalachian Newspapers Inc. already publishes the Mingo (West Virginia) Messenger and Mountain Bargain Hunter, which it will continue to publish, but will also add the Hazard Herald, Paintsville Herald, East Kentucky Shopper, the Shopper Stopper, as well as digital marketing.
