FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) – Kentucky first lady Glenna Bevin is partnering with Orphan Care Alliance, the Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Focus on the Family's Wait No More, and the Department for Community Based Services to continue her groundbreaking 'Uniting Kentucky' initiative.

The mission of 'Uniting Kentucky' is to bring together churches, people of faith, and community partners to support the more than 9,500 children across the Commonwealth who are in out-of-home care. The initiative's three primary goals include:

·        Recruiting quality foster parents to care for the needs of children in care,

·        Enlisting adoptive parents for children in need of a forever family, and

·        Calling the community to wrap around foster and adoptive families with support.

"I am grateful for your willingness to come together for our children," said First Lady Bevin. "As a community, we must do what is necessary to provide safe families for these kids and to support them for life. Come join us and find your place."

The first two (of nine) 'Uniting Kentucky' Next Steps events will be held in March:

Cumberland Region

Thursday, March 7, 2019
7 p.m. EST
Corinth Baptist Church
1671 Old Whitley Road
London, Kentucky

Salt River Trail Region

Tuesday, March 12, 2019
6:30 p.m. EST
Stithton Baptist Church
95 Park Avenue
Radcliff, Kentucky

These events are designed to share local information and resources, facilitate connections, and present practical opportunities to make a difference in the lives of vulnerable children in foster care. At the events, attendees will have the opportunity to actually begin the foster care or adoption licensing process, and they will be directed to ways they can support those who are engaged in this work.

"We are excited to share about this great opportunity," said Chris Johnson, special advisor to the Governor in the Governor’s Office of Faith and Community Based Initiatives. "Within each community, there are enough people and enough resources to solve the foster care crisis and provide forever families for all the kids who are waiting in care. I look forward to seeing how each community is going to step up to answer the call to care for vulnerable children in their area!"
