FRANKFORT, Ky. (KT) - Franklin County High School staff and students are mourning after an out-of-state car crash over the weekend claimed a longtime teacher’s life.
School officials confirmed that Adam Hyatt died Sunday afternoon after an accident in Jellico, Tennessee, according to a report in the State Journal.
Details of the accident were scarce. However, Franklin County High School Principal Charles Lewis said the school is reeling from the tragic loss of a beloved teacher.
“Mr. Hyatt was a part of FCHS for over 10 years and anyone who knew Mr. Hyatt knew this: Adam was a devout Christian, loved his family, his students, and FCHS,” Lewis wrote in an announcement to the public on Facebook. “Please keep his family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”
Franklin County Schools Superintendent Mark Kopp said grief counselors are at FCHS to assist with students and staff attempting to process the teacher's death.
“We’re just devastated at the news,” Kopp said. “He was such a strong part of the community, and he was active in the lives of his students and fellow staff. It’s really difficult because it’s such a huge loss.”
Funeral arrangements were pending Monday afternoon.
Hyatt’s wife is a teacher at Collins Lane Elementary School. They have two children.
