FRANKFORT, Ky. – The House approved a bill that would exempt homeowners and some small business from workers compensation requirements.
Rep. Myron Dossett, R-Pembroke, said homeowners and businesses with no employees who require services such as maintenance, repairs, remodeling or lawn services, not exceeding 20 consecutive days, would be exempt.
Dossett, sponsor of HB 75, added that the measure would not exempt lawn service companies from providing workers compensation to their employees. He said the bill simply alleviates a possible claim against a homeowner.
Rep. Bart Rowland, R-Tompkinsville, said the types of small businesses that would be exempted include “an individual sole proprietor, who may be a CPA, a single office insurance agent, who does not have regular employees.”
The measure was approved, 88-8, and now heads to the Senate.
