Infant has opioid overdose; mother arrested in northeastern KY


ASHLAND, Ky. (KT) – A 14-month-old child was treated for an opioid overdose and the infant’s mother was arrested in northeastern Kentucky.

Jocelyn Smith, 23, of Ashland is charged with first-degree wanton endangerment, according to the Ashland Police Department. The baby was taken to a local hospital and treated with Narcan. The child was in stable condition after the drug was administered.

Police officers, who responded to the King’s Daughters Hospital ER to assist Child Protective Services, went to Smith’s home and found drugs.

Smith was lodged in the Boyd County Detention Center. The investigation is ongoing in conjunction with Child Protective Services and the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office.
