LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) – The search committee for the next executive director-treasurer of the Kentucky Baptist Convention is making June 17 a day of fasting and prayer.
Wes Fowler, the senior pastor of First Baptist Church of Mayfield and the chairman of the search committee, said in a video announcement Thursday that they are “nearing the end of this process.”
The search committee is trying to fill the seat left vacant by Dr. Paul Chitwood, who left in November after serving in the role for seven years to become the president of the International Mission Board.
Fowler said he has asked the committee and the candidates for the position to fast and pray on June 17 and he was inviting churches in the KBC to join them.
“I can’t think of anything more appropriate than to ask our entire convention to pray for us as we make this critical decision,” he said.
A month ago, the committee said they had gone through a “thorough process” in trying to identify the candidate that God wanted to lead the KBC.
“Pray for the Lord to give us wisdom and guide us, (give us) discernment, unity. Pray for our committee that we’ll follow the Lord’s leading (and) we’ll seek His will.”
Fowler said the committee takes the responsibility put before them seriously.
“We covet your prayers and are thankful for your faithfulness,” he said at the conclusion of the video.
Co-interim directors Jim Donnell and Curtis Woods have been leading the KBC since Chitwood’s departure.
