Kentucky's top missions churches recognized at annual meeting

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (KT) – Kentucky Baptists celebrated a long list of churches that have excelled at sharing Christ through missions and baptizing new believers.

Kentucky Baptist Convention Executive Director Paul Chitwood praised the stand out churches for showing faithfulness to the Great Commission over the past year.

The Top 10 churches in missions and the Top 10 churches in baptisms were recognized at Tuesday’s annual meeting held at Highview Baptist Church’s east campus in Louisville, Ky.

Lewisport Pastor Jerry Dalton led Chestnut Grove Baptist Church to the No. 1 spot by stretching members in missions outreach. The church was closely followed by Charleston First Missionary Church in Dawson Springs, and East Hickman in Lexington.

Salem Baptist Church, Irvine, Ky., Jerry Smith, pastor

Mount Pisgah Baptist Church, Nancy, Ky., Patrick Patterson, pastor

Gamaliel Baptist Church, Gamaliel, Ky., Danny Pace, pastor

Top sending churches were determined by dividing average mission participation by a church's average worship attendance and then ranking the percentages of improvement from the previous year.

Ten Kentucky Baptist churches also were recognized for achieving the highest number in total baptisms out of nearly 2,400 affiliated churches.

Hillvue Heights Church led the state again by baptizing more than 500 new Christians under the leadership of senior pastor Steve Ayers. The Bowling Green church was followed by The Creek Church in London with 232 baptisms and His House Ministries Church in Mayfield with 126.

Immanuel Baptist Church, Corbin Ky., 87

Mill Creek Baptist Church, Bardstown Ky., 83

Better Life Church, Morehead Ky., 82

The evangelism efforts of the top performing churches and Southern Baptist congregations across the state contributed to the Kentucky Baptist Convention reporting 13,681 baptisms in the past year.
