Bardstown discipleship pastor and student minister Matt Flanagan has been tapped to serve as Kentucky Baptist Convention’s new Children and Student Ministry consultant.

Flanagan will head up the transitioning of children and student consulting from Crossings Ministries to the KBC, said Church Consulting & Revitalization Team Leader Steve Rice.

“Matt is uniquely qualified and is the obvious choice for this position,” Rice said, “having served faithfully as a student minister at three of our Kentucky Baptist churches and with establishing relationships across the Southern Baptist Convention through his ministry involvements with the International Mission Board and LifeWay.”

Prior to joining Parkway Baptist Church in Bardstown in 2005, Flanagan served as student minister at First Baptist Church of Jesup, Ga., and before that he was at Calvary Baptist Church in Danville. He began his vocational ministry while only a sophomore at Centre College at First Baptist Church in Junction City and was ordained at the church in January1997.

While at Parkway Baptist, Flanagan has worked alongside Kentucky Baptist ministry leaders at Crossings as a student ministry specialist. He also serves as International Missions Student Project Coordinator at the International Mission Board and LifeWay Christian Resources, and as a state officer of Discipleship Network of Kentucky.

“It is both with great excitement and humility that I approach the role of Children and Student Ministry consultant for the Kentucky Baptist Convention,” Flanagan said. “God has been preparing me through my ministry, education, experiences, and family. It is for His glory that I hope to be a blessing to Kentucky Baptist churches.”

Flanagan holds a master’s degree in theology and pastoral leadership from Campbellsville University and bachelor’s degree in physics and mathematics from Centre College.

He and his wife, Felicia, have two sons, Caleb and Eli.
