LANCASTER, Ky. (KT) – A decomposed body was found outside a Garrard County home late Wednesday night as authorities, acting on a tip, searched for Savannah Spurlock, a mother of four who has been missing since January.
It wasn’t immediately known if the remains were of the missing Madison County woman. They were taking the remains to Frankfort for identification, according to the Kentucky State Police. Results could be known later Thursday, the KSP said.
Multiple law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, came to the property of a suspect in the cased based on a tip late Wednesday afternoon. The search started around 10:30 p.m. after police got a search warrant and the human remains were found around midnight, KSP Trooper Robert Purdy said.
The body was not able to be identified because of decomposition, police said.
David A. Sparks of Lancaster was arrested at 3:42 a.m. Thursday morning and charged with abuse of a corpse and tampering with physical evidence.
Spurlock, 23, was last seen on surveillance video leaving a bar in Lexington on Jan. 4 with three men who have all been interviewed by authorities. None of those names have been released.
Volunteers have searched for her the past six months in wooded areas and lakes. She had given birth to twins in December and has two older children. The family has offered a reward for information on her whereabouts.
KSP, FBI and Richmond Police Departments were all on the scene Wednesday night.
