Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell is excited about the latest nominee for the U.S. Supreme Court, and for good reason.
Brett Kavanaugh is the real deal. Every American should be ecstatic about his nomination.
McConnell met Tuesday with Kavanaugh, an experienced U.S. Court of Appeals judge serving in Washington D.C. McConnell said he was thoroughly pleased with Trump’s choice.
“It’s impossible not to come away impressed,” McConnell said. “He has the all-star legal resume. The top-flight academic credentials. His extensive judicial record is defined by fairness, thoughtfulness, thoroughness, and analytical precision. I was already confident the president had made an outstanding choice. Now I’m even more confident.”
In fact, as McConnell pointed out, Kavanaugh is winning widespread praise, including from Yale Law School where faculty have described him as “a true intellectual” and “a leading thinker.”
Thirty-four legal professionals who have clerked for Kavanaugh on the D.C. Circuit said he “drafts opinions painstakingly, writing and rewriting until he is satisfied each opinion is clear and well-reasoned, and can be understood not only by lawyers but by the parties and the public.”
McConnell said Kavanaugh seems to impress everyone, except for partisan sorts who blindly proclaimed their opposition long before Trump nominated him.
“I’m glad that President Trump has made such a strong selection,” McConnell said on the Senate floor on Wednesday.
The U.S. Senate should give Kavanaugh speedy confirmation so that he can apply his education, intellect and experience to the weightiest issues in our nation.
