Jesus tells us in John 14:19 “Because I live, you also will live.”
A few weeks ago we celebrated Easter, and what a beautiful Easter day God gave us! As I write this, I am blessed to serve as the transitional pastor at Pleasureville Baptist Church. Easter Sunday marked our biggest crowd in months — which was to be expected, of course. But I noticed more than the increase in attendance, which is what we pastors tend to do! I noticed there was such a sense that after months of dealing with COVID, our people, families and friends were genuinely excited to be there.
I’ll spare you and not repeat my sermon from Easter Sunday, but one of the points I emphasized is that the resurrection should not only change the way we deal with dying, but it should change the way we live!
At Crossings, our camp pastors know we are serious about impressing upon our students and kids what it means to be a follower of Christ – to live as Christ would have us live. Paul writes beautifully in Galatians 2: “I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.”
Our Crossings team is excitedly preparing for and looking forward to what we believe will be a great summer. To be sure, our COVID protocols are going to mean that this summer’s camp will be a bit different from any previous Crossings summers. In order for us to be able to serve the most campers, we’re going to make some adjustments in how each group navigates the daily camp activities, including worship.
I can’t wait for June! I can’t wait to be right in the midst of what God promises He will do in the lives of students, kids, adult leaders and summer missionary staffers this year. For me, to be a part of the “Crossings Experience” is truly one of the great blessings of my entire life — to hear the gospel clearly presented and proclaimed, not only in the worship time, but throughout the day!
Our mission is clear: “We create experiences to proclaim the gospel.” Hundreds of times over the course of the summer we will remind students of these words of Jesus: “Because I live, you also will live.” We expect to see the life-transforming power of Jesus change the trajectory the lives of literally hundreds of students who will put their faith in the risen Christ, the most significant decision they will ever make!
It is our desire to be certain that every person who comes to camp this summer will grow in their understanding of the importance of life in Christ. We only have each camper for a few days, but I’m forever amazed at what God can do in each young life in a short period of time when those campers are completely immersed in our gospel-centered approach.
Pray for our entire Crossings team as we are working diligently to “reboot” Crossings after the long pause of summer of 2020. Through the challenges and difficulties associated with a year-long shut down, we have been extraordinarily blessed by God! To Him be the glory for what He has done and will continue to do in nine brief weeks of 2021!
